Hirschsprung Disease is a rare but serious condition that affects the large intestine (colon) of newborns and young children. It is a congenital disorder, meaning children are born with it. The disease occurs when nerve cells (ganglion cells) are missing from a part of the colon, leading to severe problems with passing stool. Without these nerve cells, the muscles in the bowel wall cannot properly contract, causing blockage, swelling of the abdomen, constipation, vomiting, and in severe cases, life-threatening infections like enterocolitis.
In this procedure, the diseased part of the bowel is removed, and the healthy part is pulled down and attached to the anus. Dr. Lal performs both open and minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques, ensuring faster recovery, less pain, and smaller scars.
